Bikini
I had the great priviledge of visiting Bikini Atoll as part of my husband's crew making a film for UNESCO World Heritage. Part of the Marshall Islands in the middle of the Pacific, four hours flight from Guam and Hawaii, Bikini is where the USA removed the islanders, tested their nuclear bombs, and left the atoll a desolate and devastated radiation zone. UNESCO listed it as one of the only sites that is not preserved as it was; rather it is allowing nature to reclaim the atoll. Very few people go there, but the Bikinians who are still scattered to the winds of the nuclear tests, just want to go 'home'.
